| Ok, in this section of the game I wanted to talk a bit more about some of my favorite parts of the game. Yet at the same time I didn't want to spoil it for anybody who might not have played this wonderful video game yet!! Characters - Harry Mason; One of my favorite quotes from the guy has to be, "Cheryl, where's Cheryl?". That just about sums it up for this guy, there's really not too much more about him. I mean well, other than the fact that he's got all the guts in the world!! I honestly don't know if I could do it?!? Run thru that town all alone, looking for anybody really!! I really try to put myself into his shoes, or any of the characters for that matter. I'd really like to know if I could actually survive the town of Silent Hill...!?! Anyways, two thumbs up for Harry. Kind of quiet and speaks in sort of a monotone when he actually does speak, but then again, would you be the same person in that type of situation?? Cybil Bennet; The fearless and extremely good looking cop. Let's see here, can't decide out of her and Harry who has the most guts....!?! That's a tough one, I feel that I'll have to side with Cybil here.1.) She's female, again all alone in this creepy town doing the same thing Harry is, ALL ALONE!!! 2.) She's a cop, she's already tough right there. Wonder what Harry does for a living?? Need I say more?!? 3.) She gets possessed......!!! Dr. Kaufmann; Some sort of crazy drug lord, ehh who cares really? Ok ok, I'm just naming off the characters because I feel that I have to. Lisa Garland; Whew, another hotty! Kind of on the crazy side tho, there were times when she'd creep me out more than some of the creatures would. For example, at one point in time during the game I waltzed in on her crouched under a table. The second I walked thru the door, she was crawling towards me all creepy like. I don't know what it is? But that scared me for some reason, really freaked me out. Dahlia Gillespie; Oh Dahlia, another one of the humans that really creeped me out. Ever noticed that her eyes looked like black holes? Man I found that to be very disturbing most of the time, I don't know, maybe it's just me. Crazy old kook tho, what's she trying to pull anyways? I mean, WHO does that?? Destroying the world and sacrifices and such.... Minus points for being too old and crazy. Alessa Gillespie; ....the reason that Silent Hill is shrouded in Evil! I cannot allow myself to say anymore... ![]() |

Creatures -
Ok in this section I'm going to go about it a bit differently. Because of the fact that the monsters in the game are what drive you insane, I want to discuss them in a different way. So let's start off with the flying Pterodactyl looking things. I found these guys to have somewhat of a creep factor but what they posses even more than that was, being very annoying. I mean sometimes they would fly up to you and you wouldn't even hear them coming, that was creepy. But when you decide that you finally got the hang of exactly how their flying sequence goes, you get bitten...or scratched...or whatever it is that they do. I do have to say tho, that when they land on the ground you FINALLY get a chance to blow them away!! Which is all they're really good for anyways. On to everyone's favorite Silent Hill demon dog!! Ok, not mine. Here's another one of those monsters that can at times get a good scaring out of you but are as equally annoying as the flying bird monsters. Let me just say that the very first time I encountered these guys, the memory of it will forever be burned into my skull. But, again once you 'think' you've got the hang of 'em... you realize that they've taken quite the bite (no pun intended) out of your health bar. Especially if there are more than one of them. Don't get me wrong here, these 2 monsters are in fact annoying but I don't hate them. They are, afterall, part of what makes the best game in the world! Now, on to the Grey Children. By far one of my favorite monsters of this game. Vicious and at times quite sneaky. I don't think that I will ever forget the first time I saw these guys. I was beyond scared and the fact that I could not escape them made it 50 times worse. The way they look, sound and move is quite disturbing to me. I mean I honestly can't say that they don't scare me still to this day. Especially in the school hallways, there are times when you can hear them but cannot see them. And then 'BAM' there's one right behind you, clinging to you. By that time I've screamed and dropped or thrown my controller out of pure fright. I usually end up scrambling towards the controller and pausing it just before they completely finish me off. Definitely one of the better monsters of Silent Hill. Next up is the invisible babies. Here we have a harmless creature that come and go as they please. Harmless yet terrifying!! This is another situation where the first contact I had with these 'things' I had the crap scared completely out of me. I mean goosebumps, from head to toe. I still remember the first time like it was an hour ago, exploring an all black room and then all of a sudden there was this partially visible blue looking thing. It squeaked and then sort of fell over and disappeared. I cannot think of how to explain to you, exactly how much that terrified me. But what I do remember is that I tried hitting the thing I don't know, say a couple dozen times....I didn't know what else to do?!? Apparently you cannot harm them nor can they harm you, but I can guarantee that you'll never forget the first time you come in contact with them! The environments that they seem to pop up in are perfect for some good old fashioned fright. Great addition to the town. Now as you can tell, I haven't used the real names given to each and every one these monsters because, I just call them as I see them in the game. This is how I know them from the game. Ok, so the next monster I want to bring up has been given the name of 'Romper'.I never had my own name for this monster because I knew them from the sounds that they make. When I would hear those sounds, all I knew was TO RUN!! Run far and as fast as the game will possibly let you, and then hide!! This by far has to be the worst monster in the game. When I say worst, I mean the scariest. I guess Romper is the best name for it because that's basically what you hear, when they draw near. Sort of a groaning noise as they 'romp' on top of you. For me, with these guys it was always best to avoid them. As much as possible. I must say that they frightened me so much that at times, I litterly let out a 'Yelp' from time to time. You never know where they are or how close they are, usually until it's too late. I love them for the fear they bring to me, but I hate them at the same time because of the fear that they bring to me. These are, by far, the best and scariest monsters in the game. Trust me, after your first contact with them you'll learn to run away the next time you encounter them. Awesome monster!! Let us move on to some of the more popular monsters. Like the 'dogs' throughout the series you'll always end up running into these guys. The doctors and the nurses, more so the nurses because you actually don't run into the doctors in any of the other games.Ok, %90 of the time when I encountered these parasitic looking 'humans' it was extremely intense. Not to mention scary as well. I remember seeing these 2 in the deep darkness of the Silent Hill hospitals. I also remember the music and how much more intense it made the situaion feel. But the worst part for me was, hearing their deep, heavy and fast breathing methods!! Is it just me or is that terrifying?!? Then when you think that it cannot possibly get any worse, you actually get to see what they look like. In this game they look a bit more human than the other games but have that bump or larvae on their back, giving them sort of a hunchback look. And to top it off the lump actually moves around as they're trying to take your life away. I'll tell ya, I remember going into a certain room and seeing them for the first time and at that second exiting the room. I couldn't even bare to try and approach them. I mean not knowing where they are or when they'll attack you that is simply awesome. All in all, I think one of the best parts of Silent Hill is the monsters. The characters are good, the environment and the atmosphere are amazing, but the monsters take that cake for me. You definitely would not have the same experience without the surroundings but, good job Konami!! Way to scare the crap out of me... ![]() Ok so now that you've gotten more of a take on Silent Hill as a whole, you probably want to play it, right?!? If so just click Silent Hill Back to Top.
