Oh Silent Hill... the first of the 4 current Silent Hill series. What can I say, the very first time I played it.. I hated it!!

The graphics were so-so (considering the fact that it was out on the PSX), those I could handle but the damn controls absolutely sucked!!! I played for about 10 minutes and then I put the controller down, turned it off and didn't touch it again . . . . for quite some time.

It wasn't until Silent Hill 2 came out and that after actually playing it (finishing it, and I'll get to that story later) did I finally decide to give Silent Hill another shot. So, that's what I did. I started my venture through foggy Silent Hill.

I found that had I given it more of a chance, after a few hours I didn't notice the crappy controls any longer. Nice!! Ok, let's get something straight, I started playing Silent Hill in the daylight or with the lights on. It wasn't until I decided to play Silent Hill in the complete darkness at night-time did Silent Hill's true 'identity' reveal itself.
 
*NOTE* New Rule: Any and all Survival Horror games should and will Only be played at night in pitch darkness!

I Cannot describe for you, in words, the complete and utmost TERROR I felt and experienced at times during this game in the pitch black!! I have no words for it!

There were times, even simply walking down a hallway, that I would get the living crap scared out of me. Namely when the invisible babies would just appear.... Whew, I get goosebumps just thinking about it.

Besides the fact that this game can literally scare the crap out of you, it can emotionally grasp you as well. I mean come on, this poor guy loses his wife and decides to take his daughter back to the place that all three of them spent the happiest of times together.

So then, when he finally gets his daughter to town he wrecks his jeep, falls unconscious and his young daughter decides to take off into the dark, foggy town of Silent Hill. When he finally recovers to find his daughter missing, of course he goes venturing off into Silent Hill to look for her. What would you do?

Silent Hill, the first installment of the series of 4, is by far one of the best Survival/Horror games out there.. still to this day, if you ask me. I would give it a ten, but if the game play and graphics were just a tad bit better, unfortunately I'll have to settle for an 8 and a half. Two thumbs up, very good game.
